St. Louis County Fair American Lung Association Booth
Representative Melin and Senator Tomassoni at ALA Booth 2011

Iron Range Youth in Action members have been assisting the American Lung Association at their St. Louis County Fair booth promoting the dangers of smoking. When talking with adults, the students asked them to sign a petition in support of efforts to reduce the harm and destruction of tobacco, including smoke-free spaces, increasing the price of tobacco, and cessation education. Students also played Plinko with visitors to educate kids and families and test their knowledge of tobacco. Flyers and Brochures were available to the public with information about increasing the tobacco tax, a look at how the tobacco industry targets youth, etc.
