American Lung Association Capitol Lobby

It was a great day! YIA partnered with the American Lung Association and attended Clearway’s Day at the Capitol event. Students met with representatives Julie Sandstede, Jason Metsa, and (briefly with Rob Eklund), regarding the Tobacco 21 & Cessation Funding bills. It was a great opportunity for students to experience the lobbying process, and to hear two sides of an issue! All 3 representatives agreed to sign onto the bill, so the students were very pleased.

Students started the day at the MN History Center in downtown St. Paul. They attended a high-energy assembly, to kickstart their day, and to prepare for a big afternoon.
They learned more about the bills they would be lobbing for, and were able to practice successful lobbying tools, and how to start conversations with representatives!

They lobbied at the State Office Building, and afterwards toured the Capitol.
